Vienna, November 8, 2025 – Motorists faced significant delays on Vienna’s Southeast Tangent (A23) on Saturday morning due to ongoing construction between Handelskai and the Prater junction. The congestion, particularly heavy in the direction of Graz, caused traffic to back up for several kilometers.

What traffic experts had warned about earlier in the week materialized on Saturday: significant slowdowns as only one lane remained open in the construction zone. According to the Ö3 traffic service, delays reached up to 30 minutes during the morning hours.

The closures are part of scheduled maintenance and road improvement works taking place over the weekend. Traffic disruptions are expected at the following times:

  • Friday to Saturday: 10:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.
  • Sunday to Monday: 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Drivers are advised to avoid the affected stretch if possible and to use alternative routes. Authorities urge patience and caution when passing through the work area.

For the latest updates, motorists can follow the Ö3 traffic service or consult ASFINAG’s live traffic information before starting their journey.
